Checked out the old apartment

108 Eastern Promenade, Portland, MEI checked out the old ‘hood on a trip to Portland this past weekend.
I lived in this then-3 BR apartment for 8 years on the Eastern Promenade until 1999. Between 3 roommates, we paid $850/mo.

Now it’s been converted to a condo, and is on the market for $649K (I could have bought the entire building for (corrected) $495K in 1999, which was a bit out of my reach and “the numbers didn’t work.” I couldn’t make the necessary income from the rentals to cover the expenses.

The kitchen has been totally redone, and the living room floors are new. One bath has/had marble floors/whirlpool tub, the other was all tile walls/floors/shower. Beautiful oak fireplace with columns.

Now the same unit is selling as a 2 BR condo for $649K!! With a full ocean view.

Yes, my butt hurts from kicking myself…

St. John, USVI

Ray on Little Maho Beach I had heard about Maho Bay Camps back when I worked for the Portland Press Herald from one of the editors who had ventured there during Christmas break. That was about 8 years ago.
Well, we finally made it there. I hadn’t been to the Caribbean in years, since Cancun in 1990! My sister has been to St. John twice and choses to vacation in the Caribbean every year so she had lots of ideas and input for what we’d need and what we might want to see, which was very helpful. The Photos: Above the water and on land and underwater (We did spend EVERY DAY snorkeling. These photos are okay and don’t include the hawksbill turtle we saw our last day, but it is forever a picture in my mind.)
